A fascinating hockey history lesson is brought forth by this amazing 102-year old relic, produced for the first season of the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, formed when teams from the Federal league (FAHL) and the Canadian Amateur Hockey League banded together. The results of the January 3 to March 10 games are neatly penciled into the schedule in the appropriate places, with the league including the Stanley Cup holders, the Ottawa Silver Seven, Quebec, Montreal (A.A.A.), the Wanderers, Shamrocks and Victorias. History books reveal that Ottawa took time out in late-February to host Queen’s University, who challenged for the Stanley Cup for the third time, (the Silver Seven won 16-7 and 12-7) and then defended their title again a week later (winning 6-5 and 8-2) when the Cup trustees decided Ottawa should play Smith Falls, champions of the reconstituted FAHL. Meanwhile the Silver Seven and Montreal Wanderers concluded the ECAHA season with 9-1-0 records, leading to a two-game, total goals series for the league championship and possession of Lord Stanley’s coveted trophy. Montreal scored a 9-1 victory in the first, with Ottawa taking the second 9-3. Two late goals by Montreal rover Lester Patrick(!) locked up the Cup for the Wanderers and ended Ottawa’s three-year Stanley Cup reign. Incredibly, those 9-1 and 9-3 scores are neatly printed in pencil at the bottom of this schedule! It measures 5-1/8” by 2-5/8” and looks to be signed twice by Allan Hooper, one of seven brothers of the noted Hooper hockey family. On thin cardboard stock, the sked was removed from a scrapbook and thus has an illegible back. Stirring piece is one of the most important schedules ever offered to the hobby. Another interesting fact to know is that the bottom front cover of the schedule indicates ''Compliments of The Montreal Arena Company''. This arena served as the home rink of the Montreal Canadiens from 1910 to 1918 and was one of the first arenas built expressly for ice hockey.
