Awesome memorabilia from the pre-NHA and pre-NHL era lists games of the 1907-08 Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, Canada’s top league of the day. Sponsored by Montreal’s Geo. G. Gales & Co., makers of the “Gales Hockey Shoe”, the four-page thin cardboard schedule has all the results added neatly in fountain pen, along with the names of the referees and assistant referees for each game. The league consisted of the Stanley Cup holders, the Montreal Wanderers, the Ottawa Silver Seven, Quebec and the Victorias, Shamrocks and A.A.A., the latter three from Montreal. The Wanderers defended a Stanley Cup challenge from the Ottawa Victorias in January, with the 9-3 and 13-1 results added at the bottom of the schedule, and then, as champions of the ECAHA (8-2-0 record) beat the Winnipeg Maple Leafs in March, posting 11-5 and 9-3 wins, before edging the Toronto “Trolley Leaguers” 6-4 in a one-game sudden-death game for the Cup on March 14th. The results of those three games appear added to the front of the schedule, which was signed by A.G. Hooper, one of seven brothers from the famous Hooper hockey family of the era. The back cover of the sked includes endorsements of the Gales Hockey Shoe by prominent hockey figures of the day, including Lester Patrick, captain of the Wanderers: “A light perfect fitting shoe and I heartily recommend it to all hockey players.” Others quoted include Art Ross, Tommy Phillips and Russell Bowie. G-VG schedule measures approximately 2-3/4” by 5-1/2” with spots of glue residue on the back cover. Another spine-tingling relic for a Hall of Fame schedule collection. Take notice that the actual photos of the schedule offered in this lot are the ones posted on the website, not the ones from the catalogue.
