Wow! Most hockey historians have heard the story of one-eyed Ottawa Senator star Frank McGee scoring 14 goals in a 1905 Stanley Cup game (against Dawson City), but a game used Frank McGee stick is definitely....unheard of! McGee is said to have combined exciting speed with phenomenal stickhandling ability to average more than three goals a game during his Hall of Fame career! Later a lieutenant in the Canadian Army, he died in action in France in September of 1916 at age 36. One-piece stick here looks to be made of elm and has remnants of a paper label on which “Championship” can be deciphered. Long, rounded blade shows plenty of game use and was reinforced by three finishing nails along the top edge and three more on the bottom edge near the tip. A few time cracks are visible but the stick is solid and stirring to hold. A letter of provenance will be included with this museum-worthy relic.
