Rare gold coin is evidence that Toronto Maple Leaf boss Conn Smythe was extremely proud and pleased with his men's Stanley Cup championship performance in the spring of 1942, the Leafs rallying from three games down in the finals to beat the Red Wings and earn a spot in the record books as the only team to pull off such a comeback in the Cup finals. With "Birks 10K" on the edge, the coin is the size of a Canadian "looney" (one-dollar coin) and features a maple leaf on the front, along with "Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club - Stanley Cup Winners 1942." The words on the back reveal "Pass - Henry Goldup - World's Champion - to Maple Leaf Gardens Any Time." Conn Smythe's facsimile signature and "Pres." conclude things. The Leafs by the way, concluded their miraculous comeback by winning the deciding tilt with three third period goals; two by Sweeney Schriner and what proved to be the game-winner by Pete Langelle at 9:43. Obtained from the family of former Leafs' left winger Hank Goldup, the coin is in excellent condition and will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the family. A special piece to tickle the fancy of Maple Leaf and MLG historians.
