Marvelous memento from yesteryear recalls the greatest comeback in the history of the Stanley Cup finals and was presented to Maple Leaf left winger Hank Goldup after he helped Toronto overcome a 3-0 series deficit to snatch the Stanley Cup from the Detroit Red Wings. The second place Leafs had taken out the regular season champion Rangers in six semi-final games but dropped the first three games of the finals to Detroit. Facing elimination at the Olympia, Toronto came through with a 4-3 come-from-behind win and, after a 9-3 win on home ice, returned to the Motor City and tied things up as Turk Broda and his mates shutout the Wings 3-0. The first crowd of over 16,000 in Canada packed Maple Leaf Gardens for Game 7 and, of course went berserk after the men in blue and white completed their exceptional playoff heroics with a 3-1 clinching victory. To mark the joyous occasion, members of the championship team received gold keepsakes like this. Lettering on an inverted blue horseshoe on the front reads "Maple Leafs World Champions" and surrounds a single diamond, with the year appearing below. One side is engraved "Hank Goldup", with "1941-42" inscribed on the other. Stamped "10K" on the interior of the size 10 band, the ring is in excellent condition, showing light to moderate wear. Obtained recently from the family of Hank Goldup, the formidable keepsake is subject to a silent reserve and will come with an LOA from Hank Goldup's son.
