An appealing find for pursuers of autographs penned by deceased Hall-of-Famers is this “Retrospects of a Newspaper Person” by Philip Dansken Ross. When Lord Stanley donated his Challenge Cup in 1893, Ross was named one of the trophy’s trustees and remained a trustee until his death in 1949. Ross had earlier played on the “Rebels” hockey team with Lord Stanley’s son Edward! This 1931 book is signed on the first page in bold fountain pen “A.E. MacNaughton with regards, P.D. Ross.” Signature mirrors the facsimile signature on the book’s cover and is joined by a name and an address. The 300-page VG condition book has a split spine but the rare Hall of Fame
autograph and interesting reading make for a winning combination.
