As most hockey historians know, photos of the guy who donated the Stanley Cup are coveted acquisitions, with this 3 1/4” by 4 1/2” cabinet affair applied to a 7” by 10” page identifying the gentleman as “The Right Hon. F. A. Stanley.” A line beneath reads “From photograph by the London Stereoscopic Company, 110 Regent Street.” Canada’s Governor General from 1888 to 1893, Stanley donated the “Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup”, a trophy that has become known as the Stanley Cup, hockey’s most coveted award. The page here exhibits minor “warping” and a 1-inch tear in the right edge, while the near mint photo offers a crystal clear image of a younger-than-we’re-used- to-seeing Stanley. An exceptional photo to match up with a Stanley signature.
