Talk about conversational pieces around the dinner table! These eight plates (10” in diameter) and similar platter feature the Stanley family coat of arms and were purchased by an antique dealer in the vicinity of Knowsley Hall, the official residence of the Earl of Derby, a title held by Frederick Arthur Stanley after he returned to England following his five-year stint as Canada’s Governor General. The dishes date to the 1890s, the period that Lord Stanley and his family/guests would have dined using them. Amazingly, they’ve survived in difficult-to-expect-nicer condition. From the Stanley’s table to yours. Would you like to say grace?!
