Sensational piece for a Lord Stanley collection, this 2” medal in its original cardboard box features the raised images of “The Earl of Derby K.G. Guild Mayor of Preston and the Countess of Derby” and is accompanied by an explanatory insert. It explains how the right to hold a Guild Merchant was first granted in 1179 and how the world-famous Preston Guild celebrations are always marked by the production of special souvenirs. This one was struck in 1902 in oxidized silver and features the Derby Coat of Arms on the reverse. Preserved in outstanding condition, with a VG box, it is a piece we’ve never seen before.
