Lovely 100+ year old antique dishes feature the man who donated hockey’s Stanley Cup while Canada’s Governor General and who returned home in July, 1893 to become the Sixteenth Earl of Derby following the death of his brother. Stanley later was Mayor of Preston in 1902, with these commemorative pieces dated September, 1902 and featuring images of Guild Hall. “Earl Derby K.G. Guild Mayor” is beneath Stanley’s image on the 9 1/2” plate (reddish tint) and handled serving dish (greenish tint with some professional repair), while a less often seen Stanley image is on a purplish tinted cup with hairline crack.
