We never tire of telling the story of one of hockey’s first powerhouses and its early 20th century Stanley Cup reign. The Ottawa hockey club, with Hall-of-Famers Harry Westwick, Billy Gilmour, Frank McGee (all three standing), team captain Harvey Pulford and Alf Smith (the latter two sitting in the middle), first captured Lord Stanley’s trophy in March of 1903 and did not surrender it until March, 1906 when Lester Patrick led the Montreal Wanderers to victory. Ottawa’s reign had included nine successful Cup defenses. Postcard here has multiple creases and back damage from scrapbook removal and looks to have been sent after March, 1906 since “Champions of Canada - Holders of Stanley Cup” is crossed out on the front.
