Likely unique ring is what was submitted to Tampa Bay Lightning officials for their consideration during the team’s successful playoff run in the spring of 2004. However, after the Lightning “went all the way” by scoring playoff series wins over the Islanders (4-1), Canadiens (4-0), Flyers (4-3) and Flames (4-3), to capture hockey’s ultimate prize, management of course opted for Stanley Cup championship rings, so this type of ring was never produced in numbers. The tableau features one large cubic zircon surrounded by two dozen smaller ones in the shape of a basketball, which surely would have been altered, while “Eastern Conference Champions” and the year encircle them in a sloping fashion. One shank includes a “Wayda” name and “#1”, with “Lightning” and an image of a hockey player on the other. A scripted “Martin Wayda” is engraved on the interior of the band, where what appears to be “Artcarved G Siladium” is also stamped. Size 12-1/2 ring exhibits light wear and will be a superb addition to a Lightning/championship ring display.
