A reliable defensive defenceman, Jean Hamel spent 7-1/2 seasons with the Red Wings after Detroit acquired him from St. Louis in 1974, and wore this red mostly mesh jersey towards the end of the 1970s. An Olympic Sporting Goods tag is in the lower inner (white knit) hem (left hip), while size 50 and “8” tags join a washing instructions tag in the collar. Evidence of a nameplate removal, a garter-style fight stripe and tackle twill “5”s on the back and sleeves are to note, with moderate game use to report. A few scrapes on the front, a team repair at the right seam (a couple of inches from the hem), four repairs on the right sleeve, one on the left, a few miscellaneous stick marks and some interior pilling are most noteworthy. A dandy ‘70s mesh!
