Special jersey here was worn by Mario Lemieux early in his final NHL season, one that coincided with the arrival of his successor, Sidney Crosby. This jersey is from the Penguins’ home opener in 2005-06, the first regular season game that Super Mario and Sid the Kid appeared together at the “Igloo” in Pittsburgh! With Lemieux’s number “66” and “C” added in black marker to the size 56 tag in the neck, the captain’s jersey features the “NHL Cares/Katrina Relief Fund” patch sewn-on at the right breast. The folks at MeiGray inform that Mario donned the jersey for the first period of the home opener, explaining the very light signs of game use. A Cutting Edge Sports tag in the inner rear hem reads in part “Katrina Hurricane Relief Jersey”. One of Mario’s final game jerseys (he played in 26 games in 2005-06 before retiring for good), this significant shirt is a tempting piece for big-time Mario worshippers.
