Fantastic first-rate old wool sweater was worn by Woodrow “Woody” Dumart, left winger on Boston’s famous Kraut Line and accomplice of lifetime friends and linemates Milt Schmidt and Bobby Bauer. The trio’s scoring feats included their 1-2-3 finish in the NHL scoring race in 1940-41, a year they led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup title. Woody played his entire 16-year big-league career with Boston, missing three seasons while, like Schmidt and Bauer, serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Dumart’s number 14 sweater here is tagged in the inner right hip region by Boston’s Horace Partridge company in size 44. The silk-like numbers on the front and back are outlined in black brocade as are the “B”s on the sleeves. Significant game use includes 11 team repairs on the front, major stitch jobs to repair the armpits, a dozen repairs on the sleeves and four more on the back. Some of the wear to the numbers' black outline is what we’ve found a photo match for. An unexplained “BLUE” in red ink was penned to both the front and back (below the numbers), while a faded “GOLD” appears in the same red marker-like ink in the gold waist stripe, again both front and back. Two pea-size holes side by side near the middle of the front hem and another in the black up by the neckline are also to note. From a Hall of Fame career, the delectable uniform will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity and our congratulations.
