Thought-provoking photo taken by Alexandra Studios is from game seven of the 1942 Stanley Cup Finals and brings forth the story of the greatest comeback in Cup finals history. Down three games to none to Detroit, the Maple Leafs rallied to win the next four games, including the 3-1 clincher on home ice. The “April 18, 1942” date of the game is penned along the lower border here, with Syd Howe (8) and Mud Bruneteau (9) threatening Toronto's net, defended by Turk Broda. The Wings took a 1-0 lead into the third period but the Leafs got goals from Sweeney Schriner (7:46), Pete Langelle (9:43) and Schriner again (16:13) to complete their miraculous comeback. Billy Taylor and Lorne Carr signed near their images while autographing the “ice” from left to right were Broda, Schriner, Stewart, Boothman, McDonald, Poile, Syl Apps, Hill, Hamilton, Davidson, Cobb, coach Hap Day, McLean, Babe Pratt and Frank Selke. The latter three sigs are rather weak, with the rest generally bold and legible. Matted and framed to 13-1/2” by 16-1/2”, this is one special piece!
