From Jacques Lemaire’s last of 12 highly successful NHL seasons, this white knit Canadiens jersey was worn by the great two-way center at the Montreal Forum in a season that saw him help the potent Habs make it four-in-a-row in terms of first place finishes, as well as Stanley Cup championships. Taking over from Pete Mahovlich between fellow Hall-of-Famers Guy Lafleur and Steve Shutt for the last two years of Montreal’s Cup reign, Lemaire put up his 12th straight 20-or-more goal season (he also had five 30-goal years and a career-high 44 in ‘72-73), bringing his career total to 366 and his point total to 835 (in 853 regular season tilts). With a Maska Superfil tag in the neck and measuring out to size 48, the jersey features two small “Maska”s embroidered into the front hem and displays heavy game use. Countless black stick marks and three small team repairs are on the front, with some two dozen more repairs on the sleeves where more slash/hook marks, numerous red paint transfers and a few small holes also appear. A nameplate removal and fraying/repair to the red tackle twill edges of the numbers are most notable on the back, with a blue striped garter-style fight strap sewn in the tail. We have not handled many Lemaire gamers over the years, making this dandy jersey all the more attractive. Worn by a rather unsung Hall-of-Famer who won an impressive eight Stanley Cups in twelve seasons, (Jacques scored the Cup-winner in ‘77), the jersey will be accompanied by an LOA.
