“With the compliments of the “Canadien” Hockey Club - Xmas 1924” in both English and French reveals the thought behind this mini poster-like production, done at a time when the Habs were defending Stanley Cup champions, having won the team’s second Cup the previous spring with a victory over the Calgary Tigers. A 21-year old rookie by the name of Howie Morenz scored three goals in Montreal’s initial 6-3 win and added a goal in game two, a 3-0 Georges Vezina shutout. Head shots of the legends are joined by those of Joliat, Mantha, the Cleghorn brothers, Coutu, Matz and Leo Dandurand, and are part of a caricature of the boys riding a train back from Ottawa. Photos of the club’s directors, including Joe Cattarinich, are included in the 13” by 22” piece, produced on sturdy cardboard. Rather insignificant moisture stains are to mention, along with an antique frame.
