An oh so important cog in Montreal’s four consecutive regular season championships in the 1940s and center of the potent "Punch Line", Elmer Lach was presented this splendid silver-plated tray after helping the Canadiens to first place in 1945-46, their third straight league title. Linemates Toe Blake (3rd), Maurice Richard (5th) and Lach finished in the top 10 of league scoring, Elmer’s 13 goals and 34 assists placing him in a tie for 7th place as Montreal posted a 28-17-5 record, the 61 points five better than second place Boston. Bill Durnan won his third straight Vezina Trophy and joined Butch Bouchard and Richard on the NHL’s First All-Star Team, with Lach, Blake and Ken Reardon on the Second Team. Measuring 15" in diameter, the commemorative championship tray features "Champions NHL 1945-46" engraved in the center and "Elmer Lach" at the bottom. From a Stanley Cup season that saw the Habs sweep Chicago in the semi-finals before edging the Bruins in a five-game final that included three overtime games, the memento has been preserved in excellent condition with a few spots of removable tarnish and some rather insignificant scratches in the middle area. By the time Lach hung up his skates in 1953, the courageous center, who continued his career following multiple serious injuries, had become the NHL’s all-time leader in both assists and points, marvelous accomplishments and a credit to his dedication and perseverance.
