After helping the Montreal Canadiens to eight Stanley Cup championships as a star defenceman then finishing his playing days with the Winnipeg Jets, Serge Savard returned to the Canadiens’ fold to become the team’s general manager, assembling the ingredients responsible for the team’s 23rd Cup title in 1986. There are appropriately 23 zircons set into the Canadiens logo on the face of this dazzling creation, a salesman’s sample. Encircling them are the words "Coupe Stanley Cup Champions", with "19" and "86" also incorporated. One shank features a raised image of hockey’s most coveted award, on which the NHL logo and "23" appear. "Canadiens" is above and banners to the sides diagonally list the Habs’ victims (Boston, Hartford, New York, Calgary) and the series’ results. An enameled Canadiens logo graces the other shank, along with "S. Savard" above and Serge’s now-retired number "18" below. The gold-plated ring is size 11-1/2, is in near mint condition and stirs memories of a 20-year old Patrick Roy backstopping Montreal through its wonderful playoff run.
