Marvelous style of championship souvenir of the times was presented to Montreal Canadiens’ trainer Eddy Palchak after the Habs regained bragging rights in the spring of 1968, capturing their third Cup title in four years. Palchak, who began his lengthy career of tending to players’ equipment in the mid-1960s, got to sip from Lord Stanley’s bowl following Montreal’s successful playoff run, the Canadiens sweeping Boston, beating Chicago in five and edging St. Louis in four straight one-goal games. J.C. Tremblay scored the Cup-winner in the 3-2 clinching game on Forum ice, which marked the end of Toe Blake’s successful coaching career. A golden image of hockey’s ultimate prize appears on a red stone here, with “World Hockey Champions” encircling it. One side features the NHL logo and “Palchak” engraved on a banner above, while the Canadiens logo and “1967-68” are on the other. Recently touched-up by jewelry maker Jostens, the size 9 ring exhibits moderate wear with a partially worn “14K” stamped on the interior of the band. A letter of authenticity will accompany this outstanding treasure from a bygone era.
