Stunning gold and diamond creation brings back memories of the Montreal Canadiens’ powerful dynasty of the 1970s and of the powerful voice of Roger Doucet, the famous national anthem singer whose rendition of O Canada prior to Canadiens games made him a legendary figure and secured his spot in Montreal Forum lore. The Canadiens made it four straight Stanley Cup titles in the spring of 1979, sweeping the Maple Leafs, getting past the Bruins in a tough 7-game semi-final and then taking care of the Rangers in five games, winning the Cup on home ice for the first time since 1968, Yvon Lambert’s early second period goal proving to be the Cup-winner in a 4-1 triumph. Bob Gainey, hockey’s premier defensive forward, contributed six goals and 16 points in the 16 playoff games and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. The image of the Stanley Cup appears on the face of this special memento, along with four diamonds and the "76-77-78-79" years that the Canadiens skated off with Lord Stanley’s silverware. Twenty-two diamonds, representing the Habs’ 22 Cup wins, encircle things with "1979" and "NHL Champions Coupe Stanley Cup" on one shank and the team’s name, logo and "Doucet" on the other. A scripted "Roger Doucet" is engraved on the interior of the band where "Josten’s 10K" also appears. Worn with pride, the size 11 ring exhibits moderate wear and comes to us from the widow of Mr. Doucet, the latter leaving us in July of 1981 after having been made a member of the Order of Canada in 1980. Geraldine Doucet’s signed letter of authenticity will accompany this magnificent keepsake.
