A significant piece of Montreal hockey history is this stick that was autographed by members of the NHL’s Maroons during the team’s final big league season in 1937-38. Hall of Fame manager Tommie Gorman’s signature leads a group of bold autographs which also includes those of team scoring leader Bob Gracie, Jimmy Ward, Gus Marker, Russ Blinco, Dave Trottier, Paul Runge, Earl Robinson, Cy Wentworth, Tommy Cook, Des Smith, Jerry Shannon and one Maurice Croghan (16 career NHL games). On the lighter side are the sigs of Herbie Cain, Baldy Northcott, Stew Evans and Allan Shields. The blade, which had its tape removed, reads “Amateur” and the solid stick exhibits use, with the knob tape also gone missing over the years. The Maroons were Stanley Cup winners in 1934-35 but with dwindling attendance and the threat of war approaching, played their final NHL game on March 17, 1938.
