Standard Assignment Agreement here regards Jacques Plante, is dated June 8, 1965, and is between the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Baltimore Clippers. One-page document features the following terms and conditions: “Sale – For the sum of One Dollar with right to repurchase for the same sum at any time.” Also “(Note: Waivers cleared at NHL Annual Meeting, Montreal, June 8/65, for removal from Protected List.)” After splitting the ‘64-65 season between New York and Baltimore, Plante announced his first of three retirements, this hiatus from NHL play lasting three years until he was lured to join Glenn Hall with the expansion St. Louis Blues. Signed twice in bold ballpoint by Hall of Fame builder Emile Francis, the document is from a, at times, turbulent career.
