Special Howie Morenz lot features a rare menu from Thursday, October 11, 1934, and a farewell dinner in honor of the Canadiens’ legend, a week after the Habs had traded Howie to the Black Hawks, along with Lorne Chabot and Marty Burke, in exchange for Lionel Conacher, Leroy Goldsworthy and Roger Jenkins. Menu is split in two, measures 5 1/2” by 9” and reveals that the tribute was given by Canadiens’ team directors at Café Martin on De La Montagne street. Thought-provoking cardboard piece is joined by a vintage near mint wire photo with paper caption and “Wide World Photos” stamped on the back. The same classic photo by Rice was used for the Crown Brand premium photo which is EX but glued onto a black photo album page. A NRMT photo by UPI of Howie in his Black Hawks uniform is dated “12/3/34” while a Canadiens 8” by 10” has tape stains. Terrific lot from the life of a hockey immortal.
