Stirring photograph was taken during one of the saddest times in Montreal sports history, one when the entire hockey world mourned the death of Howie Morenz. Howie’s linemates Aurele Joliat (far left) and Johnny Gagnon (far right) are looking solemn indeed as sympathizers file past the legend’s casket, laid to rest at center ice of the Montreal Forum. Large “H” and “7” floral tributes are visible in the center and hide the bier. Originally an 8” by 10” photo, it has, as you can see, missing corners/sections, as well as two tears in the right edge, but provides an image rarely seen. Penned to the back is “Howie Morenz Funeral 1937.”
