Spellbinding piece of old lumber is made so by the signatures penned down one side of the shaft by members of the 1928-29 Montreal Canadiens. Originally part of the personal collection of the team’s trainer, the one-piece stick incredibly still has all of its original black tape intact, both on the blade and at the handle. Although some of the autographs have bled or are a tad difficult to decipher at first, we can tell you that they read like this (in order, from the top): Albert Leduc, Howie Morenz, Art Gagne, Armand Mondou, Aurele Joliat, Herb Gardiner, Pit Lepine, Geo. Mantha, Marty Burke, Cecil Hart. “Saison 1928-29” appears just after the Hart signature, with a couple of other autographs indiscernible. The presence of Gardiner’s signature, along with those of fellow Hall-of-Famers Morenz and Joliat, make for a rare piece and a coveted acquisition. No way of knowing just which player would have used the stick, but it is solid and free of any cracks. From a season just prior to the Canadiens starting their back-to-back Stanley Cup run.
