The untimely death of Montreal Canadiens superstar Howie Morenz in March of 1937 saw an outpouring of sympathy and sadness from the hockey world and all those whose lives were touched by the “Stratford Streak.” These four pages on “William Wray – Funeral Director” letterhead list the people, clubs, leagues, companies and associations who sent floral tributes for the late “Howard William Morenz”, whose funeral was held inside a packed Montreal Forum. The approximately 7” by 11” sheets reveal that dozens and dozens of wreaths, baskets and sprays were sent with cards, along with floral tributes in the shape of hockey sticks, Howie’s number 7 and his H and M initials. Admired by all for the brilliant play that led to him being named hockey’s outstanding player of the first half of the 20th century, Morenz was nicknamed the “Babe Ruth of Hockey” by American sportswriters. Thought-provoking pieces here will tempt hockey historians and will be accompanied by an LOA from Morenz’ son, Howie Jr.
