Formidable souvenir from Guy Lafleur’s last year of junior hockey pictures the future Hall-of-Famer and his Quebec Rempart teammates who captured Canada’s ultimate junior hockey award, the Memorial Cup, following a stellar season. Led by Guy’s record 130 goals (a total that only Mario Lemieux has ever surpassed), the Remparts posted a 54-7-1 mark, scored an amazing 437 goals and, with 109 points, outdistanced second place Shawinigan by a whopping 32. Lafleur’s 209 points won him the scoring title and he also was top point-getter in the playoffs as the Remparts rolled over Verdun, Sorel and Shawinigan. Quebec then scored victories over St. Catharines and Edmonton and celebrated their Memorial Cup triumph with fans back in Quebec City. Other notables in the 10-1/2” by 13-1/2” color photo are Jacques Richard, Andre Savard, Jacques Locas and coach Maurice Filion. Affixed to a cream color mat that identifies all those pictured and that includes the April 19, 1971 date that the photo was taken, the special keepsake is in its original 18” by 20” wooden frame. Obtained directly from Guy Lafleur, the treasure will be accompanied by his signed letter of authenticity.
