From the Montreal Canadiens’ so-called “quiet dynasty”, one that saw the red, white and blue capture hockey’s ultimate prize four times in five years, comes this personal miniature Stanley Cup presented to Habs’ assistant captain Henri Richard. After the disappointment of seeing the Maple Leafs skate off with the Cup a year earlier during Canada’s centennial year, the Canadiens responded in 1967-68 with a 42-win, 94-point championship regular season, before sweeping the Bruins, taking care of the Hawks in five semi-final games and sweeping the expansion Blues in the playoffs. J.C. Tremblay’s third period goal in the 3-2 clinching game against St. Louis at the Forum was the Cup-winner and Montrealers were treated to yet another Stanley Cup parade! Marking coach Toe Blake’s eighth and final Cup victory, the silver-plated trophy here includes his name and those of fellow Hall-of-Famers Beliveau, Richard, Cournoyer, Duff, Laperriere, Worsley, Lemaire and Savard, along with the likes of Ferguson, Provost, Rousseau, the Tremblays, Harper, Harris and Vachon, engraved in two columns above those of Hartland and David Molson and general manager Sam Pollock. The type of memento that all serious Canadiens fans should have prominently displayed in their special “room”, the trophy stands just under 13” tall and has been preserved in excellent condition with cleanable tarnish and light, rather insignificant silver loss on the interior of the bowl. Autographed by Henri Richard on the green felt bottom, the tantalizing treasure will be accompanied by an LOA signed by the man who contributed to a record 11 Stanley Cups!
