Mesmerizing and memory-provoking is this huge photo collage of the 1961-62 Montreal Canadiens which hung on the wall at the Montreal Forum. It was always a treat for Habs’ supporters to check out the dozens of similar team photos as they walked down the corridor to and/ or from their seats, picking out their favorite players or recalling the accomplishments of a particular team. This ‘61-62 photo features the team’s on-ice leaders on the right side above the Habs red, white and blue logo, with Jean Beliveau appearing in his first year as team captain and joined by assistants Bernie Geoffrion, Tom Johnson and Dickie Moore. The black and white photos by David Bier are 4” by 6” and the Bier creation measures a whopping 45” by 65”, still in its original metal frame with glass intact. Jacques Plante’s photo highlights the top row, just to the right of the foursome featuring team president Hartland Molson, VP Ken Reardon, GM Frank Selke and coach Toe Blake. Rounding out the lineup that took the regular season championship with 42 wins and 98 points are Richard, Backstrom, Provost, the Tremblays, Rousseau, Marshall, Goyette, Hicke, Berenson, Talbot, Fontinato, Bonin and MacNeil. Images of the Prince of Wales Trophy, the Calder that Bobby Rousseau won as rookie-of-the-year and the Vezina and Hart trophies awarded to Plante are also included, the “Snake” becoming only the fourth goalie in history to win MVP honors. Like Plante, this masterpiece is sensational and unique and stirs thoughts of the fabulous Original Six era and of hockey’s foremost temple. Please note that special delivery/pickup arrangements will be required for this ultra-special memorabilia.
