Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - October 2007
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/23/2007
One of the first Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the rival WHA in 1972,
Rick Ley is one of a small group of players to have skated in each of
the league’s 7-year existence, donning the Whalers uniform the entire
way and being named the WHA’s top defenceman in ’78-79. Rick’s
fabulous stretchy green knit jersey is by Wilson with a company tag
in the neck indicating size 48. Great game use is highlighted by
three 1-inch team repairs on the front, scrapes in the Whalers crest,
two burns and a small resulting hole on the right sleeve and a thick
black mark in the small (left shoulder) whale patch. Five small
holes/runs on the back (near left seam), nice interior pilling and a
cut-out fight strap are also notable. Gorgeous sweater for a WHA
display.
