Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - October 2007
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/23/2007
Exceptional offering here will excite a wide cross-section of
hobbyists and bring back memories of a man who brought single-season
scoring records to a new level. Phil Esposito, whose 76 goals and
152 points in 1970-71 were records for over 20 years until another
scoring machine by the name of Gretzky came along, donned this black
durene Bruins beauty in '73-74, a season that saw the center pot 145
points, 68 of them goals. Wilson company tag in the neck includes a
size "56" added in ballpoint and "73" in thick black marker.
Featuring the assistant captain's "A" and a double garter-style fight
strap, the jersey was taken-in by Boston trainers and also includes
four team repairs. A pea-size circular stitch job is in the lower
gold stripe on the front,
while a tad bigger circular repair joins an inch-long one on the
right sleeve. The upper gold stripe on the back, near the left seam,
is where the fourth appears. Fabulous jersey also features the
highly desirable Bruins 50th anniversary patches. A video match from
the 1974 Stanley Cup finals with the Flyers will be included, along
with an LOA from GameWorn.net. Puckering, most notably in the
sleeves, and marvelous interior pilling are also to mention, along
with the fact that very few men have scored over 700 regular season
NHL goals and won five scoring championships. Espo was one of the
greatest and this grandiose jersey will be a cornerstone of your Hall
of Fame/Bruins collection.
