Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - March 2007
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/27/2007
Nothing more appropriate to start off a vintage hockey card section than the very first card set, produced by Imperial Tobacco and known as the C56 set. An attractive offering here as well, with more than half the cards in crease-free EX condition, including big names Frank and Lester Patrick, Art Ross (#12) and Paddy Moran. A notch lower at VG+ is a second Ross card (#8) and Cyclone Taylor, while cards of Percy Lesueur and Newsy Lalonde are close at VG-VG+ with no creases, just wear at the corners. VG cards with a light crease or two are numbers 3, 4, 14, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 29, 34 and 35. There is one duplicate, a G-VG Johnson (#30). Varying degrees of browning on the backs are to mention, along with the fact that you cannot have an important vintage card collection without possessing this landmark set. In overall VG-EX condition, this one doesn’t really have cards that need to be upgraded – you’ll be set.
