Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - March 2007
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/27/2007
Another intriguing face protector, this one is said to have been worn, according to our consignor, by Sam St. Laurent, a longtime standout in the AHL who got into a total of 34 games in the NHL, all but four of them with the Detroit Red Wings. A letter penned by well- known mask connoisseur Steven Jaspen relates how the mask was last used in 1989-90, with Jaspen believing it to be the last all- fiberglass mask worn in the NHL. A style used by several WHA goalies and believed to have been made by Michel Lefevre, the same man who made masks for Richard Sevigny, Bunny Larocque and later, Patrick Roy. White-painted mask is complete with back plate and straps and shows good game use. Some interior padding has gone missing, with extra foam padding added around the eyes. A letter of provenance will be included with the Jaspen letter.
