Extra-special miniature Stanley Cup trophy here for Canadiens’ faithful since it recalls Montreal’s unlikely playoff triumph following a regular season which saw the Boston Bruins pulverize several scoring records and finish atop the standings with 121 points, 24 ahead of the Habs. Their first round match-up appeared to be a mismatch but the Canadiens, backstopped by rookie Ken Dryden and inspired by a crazy 7-5 come-from-behind-win in game two of the series, upset Boston in seven, before taking care of Minnesota in six and facing Chicago in the finals. Frank Mahovlich, acquired mid- season, combined with brother Pete for nine goals in the seven-game final, won at Chicago Stadium on Henri Richard’s goal which gave the Habs a 3-2 win and their 17th Stanley Cup championship. Jean Beliveau, whose 16 assists broke a playoff record, went out a winner, seeing his name engraved on Lord Stanley’s trophy for the tenth time. Claude Larose, like his teammates, received a personal mini Cup for his efforts, with this silver-plated beauty standing a little under 13”. The players’ names are engraved in alphabetical order, three to a line on the barrel, with the team’s executives above. The makers’ “Petersen” name is stamped near the black wooden base and the trophy is in excellent-plus condition with no notable flaws. A stirring one to consider for those who witnessed Montreal’s memorable and unforgettable playoff run, it will be accompanied by a LOA signed by five-time Cup champion Claude Larose.
