Alan Eagleson’s contributions to international hockey also touched the junior level, with the Eagle working hard to convince heads of the Quebec, Ontario and Western junior leagues to form an all-star team to send to the World Junior Championships, something that first came about at the ’78 tournament held in Montreal. Eagleson and Canadian officials also wanted a jersey that distinguished the juniors from the pros and these were the result. Everything is screened on the stretchy knit jerseys by Athletic Knit including “NAME” above the “22” on the back of the white sweater, where a player’s name was to go. Both have red maple leafs on the shoulders and AK company tags in the necks. The white one is size “L” while “46” appears on the tag in the number 10 blue one. The likes of Gretzky, Gartner and Vaive wore shirts like these at the ’78 competition, with Canada finishing third behind the Russians and Swedes, Gretzky potting eight goals and nine assists in six games. In difficult-to-hope-for-nicer condition, the special jerseys will be accompanied by a LOA signed by Alan Eagleson.
