Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017

From the WHL in the late-1950s comes this superb Vancouver Canucks wool captain’s sweater obtained from a former team trainer. Currently void of labeling, the tie-neck style uniform has “Canucks” arching across the chest in red-on-blue felt letters, with matching number 5 placed beneath and on verso. Three dime-size team repairs show up on the front, with four more in the vicinity of the “C”, suggesting a previous “A”. Ten sleeves repairs with unaddressed examples are also present, with another half dozen small holes on the reverse and front. Nice pilling is also notable within the interior and on the numbers and letters. Research points to Larry Cahan donning the sweater during the 1958-59 season, with it likely worn previously by other players.
