Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Successful early-on, advancing to the Stanley Cup semifinals in three of their first five seasons, the New York Islanders first hoisted Lord Stanley’s grail in 1980, with the club then matching the previous champion’s output of securing a quartet of consecutive victories. A number of noteworthy HOF players have suited-up for the Isles, including Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Billy Smith and others. This lot contains a great collection of Islanders memorabilia, highlighted by a number of desirable signed items including a team-signed first-season yearbook. Included, we have a rarely-seen Nassau Coliseum seat back signed by Bossy and Clark Gillies, a 1982 Stanley Cup Patrick Division finals program cover-signed by 13 including Bossy, Smith and Trottier, a vintage Stanley Cup champions hat signed by 7 including John Tonelli and Clark Gillies, 7 media guides, 11 Isles yearbooks, 27 signed photos, 4 multi-signed pennants, 15 additional signed caps and more! LOAs will accompany for the signed seat back and 1972-73 signed yearbook.
First, the Nassau Coliseum seat back is 20” x 25” and quite heavy, with the solid wood backing covered with a plush maroon fabric, with both Bossy and Gillies signing in thick silver marker, with the signatures displaying well and expected light/moderate wear to the seat back. Next, the 1982 Stanley Cup playoffs program has been signed on the cover by all 13, with the additional signers to include Tonelli, Gillies, Potvin, Bourne, Nystrom, B. Sutter, Merrick, Morrow and a few others, with most in blue ballpoint, with the signatures displaying well. The program itself shows light to moderate wear. The first year 1972-73 yearbook has been signed by 30 including Smith, Nystrom and a few people in management, with the signatures displaying wonderfully and light to moderate wear to the yearbook itself. The signed photos range in size from 3 ¼” x 6 ¼” to 11” x 14”, with a number team-issued. Signers include Bossy (3 different), Trottier (2 different), Morrow (2 different), Potvin (3 different), Smith (2 different), Resch, Nystrom, Carrol, Gillies, Goring and a few others.
