Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

The red, white and blue tuque Montreal Canadiens goalie Jose Theodore wore on top of his mask is the enduring image of the very first outdoor game in NHL history. Theodore’s photo-matched 2003-04 Canadiens game-worn jersey is the one he wore during the first two periods of the first Heritage Classic game played at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium on November 22, 2003. The loose blue thread in the middle of the CH crest on the front shows in Getty Images photo number 2754463 of Theodore from Montreal’s 4-3 win over the Oilers before a crowd of 57,167. Game wear shows in black marks on the front, below the tie-neck collar and on the tail, and both sleeves. Comes with an LOA.
There is also a diagonal mark on the left breast to the left of the sleeve seam and below the shoulder yoke seam, and small spots of blue and red paint transfer on the white twill of the “6” on the back, which also has a faint diagonal black mark. NHL Vintage Hockey patch is sewn on the right breast and goalie style and size 58 flag tags are in the back of the neck. The MeiGray NHL Game-Worn Jersey 2003-2004 Season patch sewn inside the rear tail displays registry number “B10495” that corresponds to the LOA, which states that Theodore also wore this jersey four days earlier during Montreal’s 5-4 overtime loss in Vancouver on Nov. 18.
