Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Intriguing timekeeping piece was presented to longtime Chicago Black Hawk left winger and Russian-born Johnny Gottselig in April of 1936 when the Hawks and Toronto Maple Leafs played an exhibition game in Vancouver. The engraving on the back includes two errors (in Gottselig's name!) and is revealing. It reads "In Appreciation to Johnnie Gottsleig At Visit of NHL Maple Leafs & Black Hawks - April 1936 - Gyro Club of Vancouver." Two-inch in diameter watch has the maker's name ("Ingraham") included in the dime-size face, exhibits wear on the front and is no longer in working condition. The Gyro Club of Vancouver still exists today, with Gyro promoting friendship through organized social activities. Neat!
