Second on the all-time wins list for American-born goaltenders, John Vanbiesbrouck began his career in Manhattan and spent 10 seasons with the Blueshirts which included a Vezina Trophy win in 1986. Additional season would follow with four other clubs including Philadelphia, with the Detroit native also representing the US internationally. From his first of two seasons with the Flyers, we have a photo-matched goal mask worn by Vanbiesbrouck in 1998-99. Made by Armadilla/Don Strauss and featuring an intact cage, strapping and interior padding, the orange and black motif by Strauss includes stylish Flyers’ winged-P logos, with a hornet and letter “Z” added to the back plate along with an Armadilla decal. Strauss has signed twice including over the back plate with “1988”, with a sticker added to the interior that states “Custom made for John Vanbiesbrouck. The first mask worn by Johnny V while with the Flyers, a pair of digital images shows the exact matching paint job.
Showing light game-use with a few marks and scratches to the surface, there is also a crack to the mask on the right hand side near the top left corner of the cage. There is also very light soiling to the chin guard.
