Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
The last active player to suit up during the decade of the 1990s and the last active player to have played in an NHL game that Wayne Gretzky was a part of, Joe Thornton enjoyed a National Hockey League career that saw him register 1539 points in 1714 games played. Offered here, we present this San Jose Sharks jersey worn by “Jumbo Joe” during the 2018-19 season. Made by Adidas, a band displaying both "Made in Canada" and size "58+" designations is affixed to the inner collar along with a Sharks decal that displays a number "2" while the crests of the NHL and Adidas adorn the front and reverse collar respectively. Decorated over the front with a Sharks team crest that features embroidered details throughout, the distinguished alternate captain's "A" has been sewn over the left breast. Having had matching alternate logo patches placed over both shoulders, the sleeves and verso of the garment have been styled with Thornton's number "19" in dual layer teal-over-black tackle twill numerals while "Thornton" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Displaying a Sharks team tag affixed underneath the fight strap that denotes the jersey as being from the 2018-19 season and lists the time that it was in use during the year, the piece displays with just very light game-wear (Thornton is believed to use two jerseys in every game) in the form of a light stick mark under the "1" of the right sleeve and another light mark near the left cuff. Of note, a blue marker line is also present, found on the reverse, on the left side of the "1" near the top.
