Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Finishing the regular season with an 8-3 record, George Halas' Chicago Bears defeated the Washington Redskins 73-0 on December 8th, 1940 in the NFL Championship game at Griffith Stadium. To this day, it remains the most lopsided victory in NFL history. Offered here, is a rare 1940 Chicago Bears World Championship pocket watch issued to commemorate that historic win that was presented to Pro Football Hall of Famer, Joe Stydahar. Produced by Longines, the gold-coloured watch measures approx. 1 ¾” in diameter and is no longer in working order. Void of it’s original chain, the back of the watch is engraved with “Chicago Bears – Joe Stydahar, L.T. – 1940 World’s Champions” with the image of a football also present on the reverse. In good condition overall, the face of the watch shows light scratches and scuffs with heavier wear of the same forms seen on the reverse side. The original presentation box is also not included.
