Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Featuring both the first Korean-born NHL player as well as the first to have his name engraved on Lord Stanley’s hardware, we have a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey worn by rookie Jim Paek during the Stanley Cup championship-season of 1991-92. A Maska Ultrafil label with handwritten “2” sits affixed to the collar along with a size “50” fly tag, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with a textured Pens team crest, the white “Home Set 2” V-neck has been accented with oversized dual-colour tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with the NHL 75th anniversary crest over the right breast. There is also a Pens 25th anniversary patch over the right shoulder, and a “Badger” memorial crest for Bob Johnson over the left.
A few large stick marks are visible beneath the team crest, with additional marks over each upper sleeve. A two-time Stanley Cup champion with Pittsburgh, Paek spent 5 seasons in the NHL, and is currently the director of hockey for the Korea Ice Hockey Association as well as head coach of the South Korean national team.
