Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Produced to commemorate Jean Beliveau’s lone NHL scoring title in 1955-56, by his third season with the Habs, the lanky centerman had become the dominant player at his position and one of the league's superstars. Breaking Joe Malone's single-season goal record for a centerman this season, Jean’s 47 goals and 88 points represented league highs. This personal Art Ross trophy was produced in the late-1990s/early-2000s by the Boffey company at the request of Jean Beliveau as he didn’t receive a trophy contemporarily, and it features a replica of the cup that sits atop the original award. Featuring a heavily chased and detailed handled bowl with mounted gorgons set over a tiered 8” x 8” x 6” wooden base, a simple engraved metal plaque affixed to the front of the base states, "Jean Beliveau - Montreal Canadiens - 1955-56". Originally acquired directly from Jean Beliveau, his signed LOA will accompany this majestic award.
There is surface wear over the mounted bowl including within the interior, with a few scratches to the affixed plaque. There is also some minor discolouration to the gorgon on the right side, and we should note that the bowl is loose but not detached over the base.
