A veteran of 219 National Hockey League games over the course of ten (10) seasons, Jamie Storr's professional journey started after being selected 7th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 1994. A product of the Owen Sound Platers in the Ontario Hockey League and a back-to-back gold medalist at the 1994 and 1995 IIHF World Junior Championships, offered here is this photo-matched rookie era mask worn by Storr during the 1995-96 season when he played with both the Kings in the NHL and Phoenix Roadrunners of the IHL. Attractively designed in Kings colours of white, silver and black with all padding and strapping intact on both the interior and exterior, the paint job on the exterior, features a Japanese dragon throughout the top and left side of the mask to honour his mother and Japanese heritage while a sword with "Kings" over the cross guard is found on the right side over the cheek and ear area. Sporting Japanese over the chin area of the mask, the backplate features palm tree artwork and the Hollywood Hills as well as "Storr" in white letters and "KS" hand penned in black above the "O". Sporting silver signatures on the interior behind each ear from the mask's painter and maker that are both dated as being from 1995, a number of chips, marks and abrasions are present illustrating great use, with examples over the top, chin, cage, forehead and along the edges while soiling is present through the foam padding, strapping and chin cup on the interior. Of note, the backplate also shows heavy chipping around the edges and scuffs to the surface while a piece of tape has been affixed to the interior near the left ear to hold some of the padding in place. Rusting is also present to the hardware around the cage.
Regarding the aforementioned photo-matches, the mask has been matched with Getty Image #53133265 (undated) that shows the now mostly gone puck mark near the bottom of the mask behind Storr's right ear just above the middle black triangle as well as the long loose thread in the strapping harness at the top right of Storr's head. Originally obtained from Harris Peet, a former Kings equipment assistant who received the mask directly from Storr himself and accompanied by a 4orte drawstring bag, don't miss out on this fantastic offering!
