Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Jacques Villeneuve carried the #1 for the 1998 season as a reward for being the 1997 World Champion. Villeneuve and the Williams team were going to try to defend the title with a new car, the Williams FW-20 and a new engine supplier Mechachrome. The chassis and engine struggled during the season and Jacques could only manage 2 podiums and a 5th place finish in the World Championship.
This Bell dominator helmet, painted by Bell SPORTS Europe and tagged 98.12 has been photo-matched to the Italian Grand Prix held September 10-13, 1998 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Monza, Italy. Jacques qualified second before spinning out in the race and finishing 15th. The helmet shows very nice wear inside and out. There are a number of small chips in the paint and as with all of Jacques' helmets the front and top vents have been closed off to reduce airflow into the helmet. The complete race radio remains intact.
This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
