Playing his entire 853 National Hockey League career in the famed bleu, blanc et rouge of the Montreal Canadiens between 1967 and 1979, Jacques Lemaire would play his junior hockey as a member of the Montreal Jr. Canadiens in the OHA and go on to win Stanley Cups in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979. One of only six NHL players to have scored two Stanley Cup-winning goals, Jacques Lemaire achieved the feat in 1977, and again in 1979, Lemaire would again hoist Lord Stanley's Cup in 1995 as the bench boss of the New Jersey Devils and be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984. Offered here, we present this stick used by Lemaire as a member of the Canadiens in the mid-1970s. A Victoriaville made example that retains its original black tape over the shaved handle/knob and around the blade, "25" and "J Lemaire" are stamped to the upper shaft. Sporting tattered red, white and blue striping accent stickers around the upper and lower shaft, with the stick darkened/discoloured compared to other examples that we have handled, the stick shows game-wear via a number of marks and abrasions throughout the shaft, lower shaft, heel and blade, the top edge of the blade near the toe is both cracked and broken. Additionally, there is minor wear to the bottom edge of the blade near the heel. Hailing from the personal collection of former WHA and NHL referee Ron Fournier, a Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
