Boasting an impressive 97 wins, the Pittsburgh Pirates clinched first place in the National League East for a second season in a row in 1971, with superstar Roberto Clemente earning a Gold Glove Award along with the Babe Ruth Award in the postseason. The Pirates first met and defeated Willie Mays' San Francisco Giants in the NL Championship Series before matching-up with the Brooks Robinson-led Baltimore Orioles in the Fall Classic. A hotly contested seven game series, the Orioles would take the first two matches before dropping three straight, with the Pirates winning the deciding contest by a single run which included a two-out homer by series MVP Clemente. Pittsburgh shortstop Jackie Hernandez would see action in all seven games and commit no errors, the Cuban would also handle the the ground ball that would serve as the final out in Game 7.
Recognized as one of the best Pirate teams in modern history, we are pleased to offer a Jackie Hernandez 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Championship 10K gold and diamond ring. We should first note that this is not the original ring presented to Hernandez, but a later replacement specimen. Size 11 with an approx weight of 28 grams, a large diamond sits centered over a dark stone on the tableau, encompassed by "Pittsburgh 1971" slanted inside the bezel, and "World Champions" along the upper and lower outside bezel respectively. The right shank sports a raised image of Three Rivers Stadium centered, with "2" below and "Hernandez" inserted into a banner above. The left shank features a raised Pirates logo with "Pirates" inserted into a banner above. The inner band is stamped "CJ 10K" (Jostens). Regarding condition, the fabulous and stunning keepsake exhibits just very light and inconsequential wear including a couple light scratches and a few tiny and minor dings to edges. An LOA signed by Jackie Hernandez will accompany this prized specimen.
